Lionelm (/lionelm/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Violetdell Dutchy, Ivbea Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Lionelm is derived from the Sylvin language, as Lionelm was founded by Tshè Catleugh, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Lionelm has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 10°C (50°F). Lionelm receives an average of 139 cm/y (54 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Lionelm covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 3458 m (11345 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Lionelm was founded durring the early 14th century in spring of the year 1327, by Tshè Catleugh. The establishment of Lionelm suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Lionelm was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Lionelm is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature plaster covered brickwork used to form structures with an emphasis on symmetry, proportion, geometry and the regularity of parts. Orderly arrangements of columns, pilasters and lintels, as well as the use of semicircular arches, hemispherical domes, niches and aediculae can be found everywhere such that only size of building and yard can be used to measure the general prosparity of a given building's owners due to a general wealthy feeling the style gives off.

Lionelm is was constructed arround several spacious paverstone mainstreets which cross one another at certain axies, with smaller streets branching off of them to premit acess to the many buildings deeper into the road network. The overall fashion is remenessent of a circulatory system, or other organic construct, and is quite effishent in its design. The town is protected by a renforced stone fence which sits atop earthwork defences, for some of the best inexpencive defences a town of Lionelm's size could have. Lionelm's well-designed, yet cheep are in an unremarkable state. To some, this is the ideal sate for defences to be in. In need of absoutly nothing, and ready to serve the town as needed.

A look around Lionelm gives you an uneasy feeling. Everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or both. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring just long enough for it to be uncomfortable. This all rests atop the unmistakable impression the town is one of the strictest places imaginable. Everyone’s actions are clearly directed by laws they keep in heart and mind at all times. Orderly byond order is a phrase which Lionelm brings to mind.

Lionelm has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Lionelm.

Lionelm has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Lionelm has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Lionelm has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Lionelm has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Lionelm has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Lionelm's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Lionelm possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Lionelm's grid is powered by a direct leyline tap.

Lionelm has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Lionelm has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Lionelm has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Lionelm's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used has a sleek, linear appearance with stylized, often geometric ornamentation. The primary facade of its buildings often featured a series of set backs that create a stepped outline. Low-relief decorative panels can be found at entrances, around windows, along roof edges or as string courses. It was best known for its use of smooth finish building materials such as stucco, concrete block, glazed brick or mosaic tile. Decorative details can incorporate various artistic or exotic motifs to suit the building's function or the architect's whim. Chevrons, zigzags, and other geometrical motifs are common forms of ornament.

In Lionelm there is a constant smell of overcooked presumably ethnic food.

The Psyche Serpent near Lionelm are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Lionelm's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves drinking to channel Charm energies of tier 3 via throat chanting.

Points of Interest

Lionelm is remarkably well-fortified for a site of its size and role. Tall, stout walls, strong points inside the community, concentric defenses, a strategic terrain location, or a large body of standing troops might be present. Some threat is thought to exist that makes maintaining this fortification worthwhile, though it may come at a dear cost to the locals. The community’s suzerain may be uncomfortable with these defenses, as they could just as easily be used to defy the ruler.

Lionelm has a substantial mill pond located a short distance from town.

POI

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Lionelm was attacked by soldiers from another nation, with orders to raid Lionelm. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Lionelm lost 227 people, 261 livestock, and 46 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 204, when members of Lionelm's militia enacted an operation to defend a particular fortification from enemy attack. The operation was complicated by at least some of the intelligence related to the operation was incorrect. The conflict ended with an assault and siege on the fortification, which ended in defeat for Lionelm's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Lionelm's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
